I hope that you took some time to recognize the patience, resilience, and grit that it probably took you and those around you, to make it through the past 9 months. You should be proud. Demonstrating those skills is not easy.
And that is where we go today. This issue has examples of the power of resilience and the importance of this essential skill. Let me start by reminding you of the broad stroke difference between grit and resilience. It took grit to get from March to December. Grit is about the long term. It is not about bouncing back from a bad day. That is resilience. It took hundreds of resilient moments, day in and day out, to get to this place. The research on resilience is vast and includes a number of factors that determine why some individuals are more resilient than others. However, and this is key, like all of the other skills we talk about at Culture Partner--resilience can be learned and practiced.
In this issue, we will hear a student-athlete at Bridgewater College talk about the power of resilience in sports, and I will provide a few practical tips to begin the journey of exercising this mental muscle.
Whether you struggle with bouncing back in your personal or professional life or have employees/students who struggle, the information below will provide some insight.
